Put these dates in your diary now – here are our great events

Dear friends and neighbours,

Probably like you, I have already tidied my ribbon drawer ready for Christmas. So pass this message to everybody – here are our great events.

7pm Wednesday 9 December monthly pub Quiz in The Pilot, compiled and hosted by Kathryn. Note the new early start time of 7pm because:

8pm Wednesday 9 December Residents’ Christmas dinner for all those who have paid and chosen their menu.

7.30pm Tuesday 15 December monthly book club

7.30pm Tuesday 15 December monthly Alternative Book Club in The Pilot (don’t bring a book)

7.30pm Wednesday 16 December Carols on the Quay around the Christmas tree in the outer basin square, as last year. Hugh and Stuart from the marina will again be supplying free mulled wine and mince pies. The band is returning this year also. We just need your singing voices! Last year, despite being tone deaf, I am certain that my singing got better with the mulled wine. Over 50 residents attended last year. Please help us break that record this year, bring everybody along!

5pm-8pm Thursday 17 December Penarth late night shopping.

I look forward to seeing you all at these events – enjoy yourselves!

Very best wishes,
Martin

PACT meeting is on Wednesday 11 November at 7pm in The Tabernacle, Plassey Street

Dear friends and neighbours,

Gareth Parry, our PCSO, has asked me to inform you of the next PACT meeting. This is the time and place to take any policing concerns you may have.

If you do go along with a concern for the Police, by raising it in the meeting it will be minuted and please take a note of who will take which action by when. Plus, when you return home, confirm all of this in writing (an email will do).

The next PACT meeting is on Wednesday 11 November at 7pm in The Tabernacle, Plassey Street.

Good luck and very best wishes,
Martin

Residents’ Association Meeting in The Pilot on Wednesday 16 September followed by Quiz

Dear Friends and Neighbours,

Please forward this message to all of your neighbours and friends.

We are holding a meeting on Wednesday at 7pm to decide whether we should repeat last year’s successful Carols on the Quay and a Dinner before Christmas to ‘celebrate’ our progress and achievements. Below I have summarised the position on outstanding action points from our last meeting, and this Wednesday’s meeting agenda. Attached are the previous meeting’s minutes. Please support us by attending on Wednesday and tell us which social events we should hold this winter. Then, stay on and take part in the quiz for fun (and bottle of wine for winners, of course).
Actions still Outstanding

Speeding on Terra Nova Way: another review of the speed cushions on Terra Nova Way was to be implemented. We are led to believe that the review is yet to be commissioned.

Skatepark: residents have not been consulted on changes to the childrens’ park on Paget Terrace. It is assumed that this project is dormant – until residents are consulted.

Tree felling: residents were concerned that more trees will be felled to provide better views for Penarth Heights residents and others. It was agreed at the last meeting by the residents that no trees should be felled for aesthetic reasons. Gwyn Roberts stated that this was not the case and promised to forward three different reports justifying the removal of trees. When received, these reports will be shared with the residents.

Yellow lines on Penarth Portway. The yellow lines agreed by the residents with the VoG last year have still not been painted. At our AGM Gwyn asserted that the VoG employee’s statement that week that it was a very low priority for them, was not correct and the painting would go ahead…

Lighting of Zig-Zag path: we have been promised that this will be installed this year – hopefully before the days become much shorter. Also outstanding for the zig-zag bends are the seating, tree planting, and art installations. The lighting is a key priority.

New Neighbourhood Concerns – Kept in the Dark

There has been a loss of power for the street lights on Terra Nova and Penarth Portway. Now there appears to be a failure of power to street lights around the outer basin of the marina. We are informed by VoG that this is due to a power failure by the electricity company and is not a VoG cost-cutting initiative. The VoG advise that the electric supply company is working to reconnect all neighbourhood street lights.

September Activities

Hi,
At last the summer is over and we can get back to enjoying ourselves. Please tell everybody you know (and don’t know). Starting this weekend, here are the places to be:

Saturday 5 September – Picnic Penarth (Station Approach)

18:00 to 23:00 drinks, dancing and dinner in the dark. Lots of street food from our fabulous restaurants and others.
Sunday 6 September – Picnic Penarth (Station Approach)

coffee, and alternative Sunday lunch from 11:00 to 16:00, with live bands, street food and undercover seating throughout the weekend.

At the Picnic will be Phil (ex-manager of The Pilot) who is now an owner of Vale of Glamorgan Brewery so do go along and try his craft ales.

Thursday 10 September

The Book Club will meet at 7.30pm

The Alternative Book Club (no books allowed) at 7.30pm in The Pilot. Since we last met, the world has fallen apart. The world needs our advice. We need to get back to putting it right. Football, rugby and cricket teams may also need our words of wisdom. So much to talk about and so little time to drink.

Wednesday 16 September

7pm Residents’ Association meeting in The Pilot – do you want Carols on the Quay again this year? A Christmas dinner in December was also very successful last year – should we do it again? Come and tell us at the meeting (7pm). Immediately after the meeting:

7.30pm Quiz night in The Pilot. I haven’t heard from Jude but I am told that she will deliver the quiz whilst riding a monocycle to show off. Sounds like her. Good to see her back.

Friday 2 October Jazz Big Band & Singer at the Paget Rooms

This will be great fun with a big band to blow away those autumn blues. More details to follow so keep a look out!

Do tell everybody about these events and get them to participate. See you there!
